Abstract

Everyone involved in archaeology, whether actively or as interested observer, should be prepared to face the factoids as Henry Hankey does in this illuminating interpretation of archaeological realities, the second after his much appreciated contribution to this series: Archaeology: Artifacts and Artifiction 1985. A factoid is according to Collins, English Dictionary and Thesaurus (London 1993): "A piece of unreliable information believed to be true because of the way it is presented or repeated in print (20th Century, Norman Mailer, US author."
