Abstract
This is the fourth and final volume of James Stewart’s Corpus of Cypriot Artefacts of the Early Bronze Age. The groundwork for this project began during Stewart’s excavations at Bellapais Vounous on the north coast of Cyprus in 1937–1938 and occupied much of his time and energy until his death in 1962. The Corpus provides a comprehensive review of all material available at the time, organised and classified in a complex and detailed system, fully illustrated with drawings. It was originally intended to be included in Stewart’s contribution to the Swedish Cyprus Expedition Volume IV Part IA but this proved impossible because of its length. Following Stewart’s death his wife, Eve Stewart, worked tirelessly toward the publication of the Corpus, editing (together with Paul Astrom) three volumes in 1988, 1992 and 1999. This fourth volume brings the project to completion. It contains the final instalment of Stewart’s classification of Early Bronze Age pottery as well as his detailed typology of metal, stone, bone, terracotta and other objects.
