Pyla-Kokkinokremos. A late 13th century BC fortified settlement in Cyprus. Excavations 2010–2011
Authors: Vassos Karageorghis & Athanasia Kanta
Volume: M141
Abstract
The volume contains a full report on two seasons of excavation undertaken in 2010 and 2011 at Pyla Kokkinokremos in southeastern Cyprus. The site was occupied for a short period during the so-called ‘crisis years’ which marked the transition from Late Cypriot IIC to Late Cypriot IIIA. At least four architectural complexes and 46 rooms were uncovered and are discussed here in detail. The volume also contains a short chapter on subsequent excavations by Kanta in 2012 as well as appendices on the marked pottery (N. Hirschfeld), ‘Canaanite jars’ (A. Georgiou), a decorated bronze plaque decorated with a nude figure of Qadesh type (J. Karageorghis) and the Quaternary environment (Z. Zomeni), a petrographic analysis of Late Cypriot cooking pots and Late Minoan pottery (M. Dikomitou-Eliadou, E. Kiriatzi & A. Vionis), a chemical analysis of copper alloy artefacts (A. Charalambous & V. Kassianidou) and Neutron Activation Analysis of a Late Helladic IIIC deep bowl (H. Mommsen).
