A Cypro-Archaic Tomb at Xylotymbou and Three Cypro-Classical Tombs at Phlasou: From Exuberance to Recession.
Authors: Georgios Georgiou & Vassos Karageorghis
Volume: M140
Abstract
A Cypro-Archaic I–II tomb excavated by the Department of Antiquities in 2011 at Xylotymbou in southwestern Cyprus and three Cypro-Classical tombs excavated in 2000 and 2001 at Phlasou in the Karkotis River Valley in northwest Cyprus are published in this volume. The recovered assemblages suggest interconnections between Xylotymbou and Phlasou and provide a basis for a discussion of the role of the two sites within their regional networks. These connections and their implications for better understanding both the urban nuclei and territorial peripheries of the city kingdoms of the first millennium in Cyprus are fully explored in a concluding chapter. The volume includes a preliminary chemical study of Grey and Black Polished II (IV) pottery (A. Charalambous, M. Dikomitou-Eliadou & V. Kassianidou).
