Abstract
The Early and Middle Cypriot Bronze Age cemeteries at two localities near Karmi village—Palealona and Lapatsa—are situated in the steep foothills of the Kyrenia range, overlooking the narrow coastal plain on the north coast of Cyprus. In 1961 J.R. Stewart undertook excavations at these sites as part of his long-term program of research on the Early and Middle Cypriot periods. In all he cleared 15 tombs at Lapatsa and 16 at Palealona but was able to publish only one tomb, the so-called ‘Tomb of the Seafarer’, which produced a Middle Minoan Kamares Ware cup, before his death in 1962. This monograph is the final publication of these excavations, based on Stewart’s archival records. It contains information on all the tombs and the full complement of finds, which comprises about 800 vessels, figurines and other objects now housed in museums and other institutions in Cyprus, Australia, New Zealand, England, Sweden and the United States of America. The volume also includes chapters on the human remains in the Nicholson Museum (C. Pardoe) and the Cyprus Museum (K.O. Lorentz).
