Abstract
This volume and its associated digital archive present the results of archaeological research conducted in 2003 and 2004 on the extensive Bronze Age cemeteries at Deneia on the southern side of the Ovgos Valley in northwestern Cyprus. Most tombs in the localities broadly defined as Kafkalla and Mali, which extend 1km to the west and east of the modern village, have been looted but tombs can still be found in dense concentrations over at least six hectares of the limestone plateaux and in adjacent valleys. The research on which this volume is based was undertaken to discover what could still be learned from this looted landscape and develop strategies for investigating sites of this kind. Some 1300 visible tomb entrances were documented and over 25,000 sherds were collected from a number of tomb chambers, together with small finds and human remains, in order to determine the date and duration of use of each tomb and document the evolution of each burial ground. This proved to be a cost-effective approach to addressing broader questions of demography and settlement growth, as well as providing material for fine-scale analysis.
