Marki Alonia. An Early and Middle Bronze Age Settlement in Cyprus. Excavations 1995-2000.
Authors: David Frankel & Jennifer Webb

Volume: M123.2

Abstract

This is the second and final report on a decade of research undertaken between 1990 and 2000 by the Australian Cyprus Expedition at the Early and Middle Bronze Age settlement at Marki Alonia in the Alykos Valley in central Cyprus. The excavations, which until recently provided the largest exposure of any settlement of the period, revealed evidence of at least 500 years of occupation from the earlier stages of the Bronze Age (known as the Philia period) through to final abandonment in Middle Cypriot II. The volume is a comprehensive report on the fieldwork and the finds. It includes chapters on the architecture, stratigraphy, chronology, ceramics, small finds and ground stone by Frankel and Webb, with additional chapters on chipped stone (M.A. Smith), marine and freshwater invertebrates and fossil shells (D.S. Reese & J.M. Webb), animal bones (P.W. Croft) and human remains (C.J. Moyer, S.C. Fox and K.O. Lorentz). It is accompanied by a DVD with extensive databases and additional colour illustrations.
